My Story
You may have seen me before in some of my track breakdowns like these
Or maybe you’ve seen some of my longer tutorials on YouTube
My name is Vig but I also go by my artist name
“Mystic Arts”
Since the summer of 2016, I've been producing music in many genres and teaching others along the way.
Believe it or not, I actually fell into music production totally by accident.
Maybe like you, my dream as a teen was to become a touring guitar rockstar and I dedicated every minute after school to make that happen.
Clearly, I failed at that - and in a spectacular way…
Due to my "meat-headedness" and social anxiety at the time, I didn’t ask for a spotter when I decided to ego lift while doing heavy squats.
As you can guess, the weights crushed more than my just fingers on its way down off the bar. My dream of touring and becoming the next John Petrucci was sadly destroyed.
However, that wasn’t the end.
In my depression due to 3 months of forced time away from guitar to let my playing hand heal,
I stumbled upon a Martin Garrix interview (you know, the one with FutureMusic Magazine?) where he talked about his song Animals.
Watching the interview, I was shocked to realize that he was a teenager my age,
had made a viral song from his bedroom that was signed to a major label,
and was touring and playing live at some of the largest arenas and festivals in the world.
This moment forever changed my life.
From here, I decided to give music production a shot.
I mean, if a kid the same age as me can become a massive artist, I’m sure it can’t be that hard…
And so the story enters a new phase and I quickly fell in love with music production and the creation process.
I turned all my energy and drive from guitar towards learning everything about music production.
And I’d spend every spare second after work working on my music.
Not to brag or anything, but my first track was seriously a banger! 🤥
Now of course, like a responsible adult, I had to eventually spend less time on music because of work and “getting a real job”
So the music took a back seat for a while and this is where things got tough.
3 years ago I was stuck in a 9-5 banker role which not only affected my music but also hindered me mentally.
I was depressed with career expectations when all I wanted was to make music
I was frustrated I couldn’t be confident to release my music I worked so hard on everyday
And I felt hopeless I would NOT be able to make my music hobby profitable
It was miserable, but I didnt know how to change it
Until I systemized my production workflow and everything changed
Now I can
Create high quality song ideas fast
Finish and release those songs consistently
Make clean, crisp and loud mix/masters
Network and reach big artists&DJ
Grow to higher income every day with my artist project and get more streams than I could ever imagine
But nothing good comes easy I made a lot of mistakes along the way. If I knew these 2 things from the start, I would’ve succeeded even QUICKER
Tip 1
You dont have to spend 10 years learning the fundamentals
The right information in the right order and with the right guidance removes all that time and guesswork
The reason you think it would take 10 years is because you're going it alone
Tip 2
Trying to go it alone takes more than 10x your time
You can always keep doing what you’re doing and hopefully someday things work out
But how much stress anxiety and sacrifices of your wellbeing is that worth?
My biggest regret is not taking action and finding coaches for my goals when I was younger
Its easier to ignore those feelings of discomfort and continue scrolling and living life in a sort of blissful ignorance
But at some point, you have to make a decision to either do something about it, or be ok with the pain you feel now and keeping that until you’re too old to do anything about it.
Obviously, the path I started on back then wasn't a well travelled one and I’ve had to experiment and figure many things out on my own.
Ranging from sound design to mixing and mastering, arrangement, songwriting, music theory.
I’ve started multiple projects which inevitably failed and from these I learned invaluable lessons related to music production, mindset, workflow and more.
Throughout all these years I’ve also been blessed to be able to share and teach others the knowledge I picked up
and have been taught by some incredible mentors I’m grateful to have met and worked with.
And so my mission now has shifted to helping others as I’ve been helped
and to get people over all the problems I had in a much easier and quicker way without all the years of frustration and failure.
