Hard working isn’t the same as working hard

I bet at some point, you've seen one of these videos.

These silly and to be frank - childish motivational videos.

Don't get me wrong, I used to love these videos when I was young,

But they never actually helped me get anywhere.

It made my motivation like a fart in the wind LOL.

Blows away as soon as I had to do something actually hard.

This all stemmed from the way we've conditioned ourselves to view "hard work".

We seem to like the idea that being a hard worker is what's needed for success.

But far to many of us (me too in the past) have a surface level understanding of hard work.

Hard working is NOT the same as working hard.

One is for show.

The other is for real progress, real success - the actual hard work.

The difference between hard work and working hard

Being a hard worker is actually quite easy.

You numb your mind to your task and do it as easy as possible.

Done, you're a certified hard worker.

But it doesn't actually get you anywhere because your still not working hard.

Working hard means to face the work that is not easy.

  • Overcoming limiting beliefs

  • Mental work

  • Strategizing

  • Networking

  • Thinking

  • Planning

And it's not only mental work that's hard (although that's usually the case).

Any work that you find is something you can do on autopilot - you should no longer consider as "hard work".

Evolve and push yourself to the next level of hard work - whether that be strategic planning, networking etc.

A good compass to determine what work you need to do next is.

Whatever thing you fear the most right now - is the thing you need to do the most right now.

So if you're fearing to start your social media page - that's the direction you should be heading in.

If you're scared to release your songs - you should be releasing your songs.

99% of working hard is a mental tug of war

To work hard, we have to combat our weaker selves.

The weak version that wants to eat sugary foods and drinks.

Skip the gym/exercise.

Skip sending out DMs.

Skip working on your music and watch netflix instead.

So to actually work hard instead of being a "hard worker" - you need to constantly fight your mentally weaker self.

It's not easy.

And that's why it called working hard - because you're working at doing stuff which is hard.

Where as a hard worker is someone who looks like they are working hard but are on autopilot.

How to start working harder

1. Engage your mind in the task at hand (don't go on autopilot)

Hone in on the micro details of your task at hand.

When you're producing, think about actual ways to do something better, make it more interesting, unique etc.

Rather than going on autopilot and doing what you always do.

2. Ignore that weaker version of yourself who is trying to take the easy path

When you want to quit or you feel lazy and demotivated - push through that.

It's those times where you push through that matter the most.

If you let yourself off the hook, it becomes a slippery slope and it's harder to get back momentum.

When you’re producing and don’t know what to do next and are stuck - push past it and just make something anyways.

3. Force yourself to sometimes "bite off more than you can chew" (that's how you grow)

Pushing yourself past what you think you can do is the key trait for growth.

Yes it's uncomfortable

Yes it's going to be stressful

Yes the outcome is uncertain

But that the price of the success and the dream goals you have.

If you want to have results no one else does, you have to do work that no one else is willing to do.

It's not easy - but that's why it's worth the effort and sacrifice

Peace [and get to work ;) ]
