You’ll never be ready for your best ideas (thats why a system to capture them is key)
If you have an idea you’re excited about and you don’t bring it to life, it’s not uncommon for the idea to find its voice through another maker. This isn’t because the other artist stole your idea, but because the idea’s time has come - Rick Rubin, The Creative Act
It's 2024 and the next 12 months are your time to shine - or so you think.
Isn't that what you thought last year and the year before?
The idea that "If I do enough hard work paired with a bit of luck, I'll make it!".
I used to think like that.
I used to never get results.
And it's not 100% our fault, a lot of the world is set against us to be independant thinkers.
But if you want to be successful in 2024...
To make 10x better music and grow the stuffing out of your artist project - it's 100% our responsibility to think different than before.
You already have enough luck... What you're missing is a way to make it repeatable
While none of us admit it - we unconsciously rely on luck to reach our goals.
We do this by not creating sustainable systems which improve over time and turn our "luck" in a repeatable process.
The less systematic your music productions are, the less predictability you get and the more luck you rely on.
And with less predictability, comes less results and less growth.
The next thing you realize, its already mid August 2024 and you've hardly made any progress in your music career.
As soon as I made a simple shift in my thinking - which was to systemize my workflow - everything in my productions changed.
And this led to things outside my music improving.
My health got better, I got stronger and more energetic.
I started to earn more money from my music (not by streams!)
I found and attracted more like minded, long term life partners, in and out of business.
My whole life quality increased 2x by simply shifting my thinking a bit and applying those new mental models to my work, in and out of music.
The best use case for a production system
You ever hear a sound/idea in your head and want to remake it but can never seem to get it out fast enough before you forget the idea?
How many chart-topping ideas have you had that you sacrificed because of not being able to translate that idea into your DAW?
This is where knowing sound design and having a system to reverse engineer the sound into reality and into your DAW is key.
It seems pretty obvious but the better you're able to capture and reatain high quality ideas - the better your songs are!
Do this over and over and you have a huge catalog of high quality tracks.
This is why systems are essential for success.
Imagine as if we are like a Wifi receiver.
The better cleaned up the pathway - the ability and system to translate our idea, the more clear and faster the idea gets transmitted from thought into reality.
It's not luck, timing or random chance.
It's a combo of your ability to cpature those little ideas which come to you as efficiently as possible.
The faster you're able to capture the idea, the more high quality information from your head that you retain.
Steps to make a system that captures your best ideas consistently and build an arsenal of ideas that no one else can copy.
1. Find a method and process to remove monotonous, repetitive work and use the new time to consistently start high "dopamine" song ideas.
2. Put into the system a process which lets you finish those ideas quickly. This part should have a built in way to mix and master in house to be clean, crisp and loud - just like top artists.
3. Continously improve your songs with better production quality, sound design etc.
4. Leverage these constantly improving songs to grow your audience and artist project. This lets you reach out to bigger DJs/Producers and actually get a response from them.
5. Iterate the system as time goes on, tweaking and improving parts of it as required.
